Sophie Hunger (born March 31, 1983 in Bern ; actually Emilie Jeanne-Sophie Welti ) is a Swiss singer , musician , songwriter and film composer . She plays guitar , blues harp and piano .

Life

Sophie Hunger is the daughter of Philippe Welti and Myrtha Welti , b. Hunger, as well as Arthur Welti's granddaughter . As a child, Sophie Hunger took piano lessons for a while. Her father listened to a lot of jazz and punk, so that she came into contact with these types of music at an early age. Through her mother she got to know various folk songs . Between 2002 and 2006 Hunger was a guest singer on the project “Superterz”; she can also be heard on the 2006 album Standards . From 2004 Hunger was also a member of the indie rock band Fisher , which broke up in 2007.

In September 2006, published Sophie Hunger in self-distributed their first CD Sketches on Sea , she had even taken home. In 2007, the director Micha Lewinsky offered Sophie Hunger a role in his film Der Freund . She initially declined, but offered to compose the film music. Between January and May 2008 Sophie Hunger recorded her first studio album Monday's Ghost in the ICP studios in Brussels and in the Studio du Flon in Lausanne. This album was produced by Marcello Giuliani (among others Erik Truffaz Quartet), who also took over the bass part. Trombonist Michael Flury, multi-instrumentalist Christian Prader and drummer Alberto Malo also played a key role. In June 2008 the French division of Universal Music Jazz signed Sophie Hunger.

With her band, which, with the exception of Balz Bachmann , who replaced Giuliani on bass, corresponded to the studio line-up, Hunger played at the Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival in the sold-out Miles Davis Hall on July 6, 2008 .

1983

In August 2009 Hunger began working in Paris on her second studio album in 1983 , which she produced herself with the help of sound engineer Stéphane Alf Briat ( Phoenix , Air, among others ). One of the highlights of the 1983 tour in 2010 was the invitation to the Glastonbury Festival , where Hunger appeared as the first Swiss band in festival history. The invitation to the Montreal Jazz Festival is also important . "The Danger of Light"
