My life as a zucchini (original title: Ma vie de Courgette ) is a French - Swiss stop-motion film from 2016 . The screenplay by Celine Sciamma is based on the novel Autobiography of a Plum by the French author Gilles Paris .

action

Nine-year-old Icare, who is called “Zucchini” by his mother, lives alone with her. His father had left her before, who was always "very fond of the young chickens". Icare himself sees his father as a superhero and has painted him on his kite. One day the little zucchini was playing with the beer cans of his alcoholic mother, who tragically died in an accident on the stairs to his room.

The sensitive police officer Raymond then takes him to an orphanage, where the other children have experienced something similar. As a souvenir of his parents, he keeps a beer can for his mother and the dragon with his father's picture. When he arrives at the orphanage, Simon urges him to reveal his background. This annoys him repeatedly and always refers to him as a "potato". But when Simon steals his kite, the two begin to fight and are summoned to the headmistress. The two make up and Simon tells him that his parents used drugs. He also knows the fate of the others and zucchini replies that he killed his mother. From then on he has more fun life and Raymond visits him.

A new orphan, Camille, joins the group. Zucchini and Camille get along well from the start, but she keeps silent about the reason for her stay. The curious Simon and Zucchini break into the secretary's office during the night and read their files: she saw her father's murder of her mother and his subsequent suicide .

In winter the orphanage goes on a trip. Simon then steals the courgette beer can on the bus, but Camille takes it away from him and gives it back to the courgette. The two then go sledging together. In the evening there is a small disco in the ski hut and zucchini and Camille dance together. Instead of sleeping, the two sneak away at night and Zucchini gives her a paper boat. On this occasion, her zucchini confesses that he knows her past. Camille opens up to him now. After the death of her parents, she lived with her common aunt. When they return, the children have a snowball fight.

On the way back, zucchini gives Camille a kiss and they hold hands. Zucchini writes Raymond about his experiences. Camille's aunt wants to take Camille back home so that she can get money. But Camille himself does not want this. When Raymond picks up zucchini, the children smuggle Camille into his car. When he discovers them, he calls the orphanage, but takes them to the fair anyway, where Camille wins a teddy bear. Camille's aunt takes away Camille Raymond and threatens to report him.

The children in the home threaten to go on hunger strike and write letters to her. They could bring an MP3 player to her in the paper ship . Camille takes up the insults of her aunt and thus convinces the judge that she can stay in the orphanage. Raymond talks to the judge and wants to take Camille and Zucchini in, which Simon overhears. He is very sad about it because he wants everyone to stay together. But he realizes that it is better for them both if they are adopted.

Finally, Raymond picks them up and takes them home. At the sight of her new room, Camille bursts into tears. Zucchini continues to write to Simon, who had never received any mail before. The photo of his orphanage friends is now glued to Zucchini's kite.
