Noir Désir was a French rock band that formed in Bordeaux in the 1980s and disbanded in November 2010 . It consisted of singer Bertrand Cantat , Serge Teyssot-Gay on guitar , Denis Barthe on drums and Frédéric Vidalenc ( replaced by Jean-Paul Roy in 1996 ) on bass . The group's career spanned more than 20 years and culminated in the 1990s. The band's music and lyrics often express their rejection of fascism and capitalism, as well as their critical stance towards globalization .
history
Bertrand Cantat and Serge Teyssot-Gay, who both went to the same high school class in 1980, decided to make music together; Denis Barthe joined a few months later. Noir Désir's second album (released in 1990) introduced punk rock elements into her style. This continued in the next album Tostaky , which also included a successful song with the same title. The group became one of the most popular French rock groups and continued their success with the album 666.667 Club and the remix album One Trip One Noise . Her last album Des visages des figures also contains the song Le vent nous portera , which was recorded together with the French-speaking singer Manu Chao as a guitarist.
During a visit to Lithuania in July 2003, Bertrand Cantat hit his girlfriend Marie Trintignant so hard during a violent argument that she died after a brief coma as a result of the injuries inflicted on her. He was sentenced on March 29, 2004 by a court in Vilnius to eight years in prison for manslaughter .
In September 2005 the group released the album Noir Désir en public, originally planned for 2003, with musical highlights from their last tour in 2002, as well as a double DVD set Noir Désir en images with videos of their live performances. The singer Cantat was given a special permit to collaborate on the material. On October 16, 2007, Cantat was released conditionally for good conduct. After Cantat was released, the band signed a contract with the Barclay label for three new studio albums.
In November 2008, two new titles ( Gagnants - Perdants and Le temps des Cerises ) were made available for free download on the group's website . These came from the next album Gagnants - Perdants , which was due to be released in early 2009, but the release was delayed. This was the group's first artistic sign of life since Bertrand Cantat's release from prison.
In November 2010, however, Serge Teyssot-Gay announced his departure due to personal and musical differences with Bertrand Cantat, whereupon the remaining three band members announced the breakup of the group.
