Emergence

The album was produced by the American musician Theo Hakola after he saw Noir Désir at one of her performances in Bordeaux. He was so enthusiastic about the group that he made it his personal task to bring them to the public. The subsequent recordings for the six songs on this album lasted 20 days and took place in Brussels.

The first work by Noir Désir with only six titles makes the style of the group very clear. The lyrics are lyrical, elaborate and meaningful. The title Toujours être ailleurs ( always being somewhere else ) expresses a feeling of discomfort, which is very characteristic of certain French poets ( Baudelaire , Rimbaud ) and has already been recorded by other singers such as Léo Ferré . The song La Rage ( Anger ) gives a taste of the rebellious and revolutionary side of the group. In terms of music, however, the album is not really revolutionary, as the Anglo-Saxon influences can be clearly seen (although most of the songs are in French).
