The Young Gods ( Engl. "The young gods") is a post-industrial band from Switzerland , which in 1985 in Freiburg was founded and currently from Franz Treichler (vocals), Cesare Pizzi (sampler) and Bernard Trontin (drums, formerly The Needles ). The name of the band was inspired by the song Young God by the American band Swans .

history

In 2006, the Young Gods played two special programs, especially in Switzerland: Under the name “Play Woodstock”, they played songs from the concert film Woodstock together with the singer Erika Stucky and showed original images from the film. They also played in "Unplugged" concerts with acoustic guitars , drums and melodica .

Most of the 2010 albums and Everybody Knows released up to 2007 were produced by Swiss Roli Mosimann ( The The , Faith No More , Marilyn Manson , New Order , Nerve ).

Style and meaning

The music consists mainly of drums, samplers and vocals and at times guitar, although the type of music varies greatly from album to album. On the album Play Weill , the band covers pieces by Kurt Weill from the Threepenny Opera and from the rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny , e.g. B. Pirate Jenny and Alabama Song .

The Young Gods have achieved a relatively high level of awareness within their genre. You will e.g. B. by Mike Patton ( Faith No More ), Devin Townsend , Nine Inch Nails or Ministry as a formative influence.

Solo projects

Some musicians also pursue solo projects: Among other things, Franz Treichler composed music for dance pieces by the choreographer Gilles Jobin . Al Comet performs solo with sitar and has released several solo albums. Bernard Trontin works primarily with jazz musicians like Pierre Favre . He released an album under the name trontin-jones in November 2006 together with Simon Huw Jones , the singer of the English band And Also the Trees .
