Jojo Mayer Strange Balls of Fire

Nerve is a music formation from New York City around the Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer , who implement contemporary electronic music styles such as drum and bass , jungle and house in a live context. The core includes the American bassist John Davis, the keyboardist Jacob Bergson (previously keyboardist and trumpeter Takuya Nakamura) and at the mixer Aaron Nevezie (previously the Swiss sound engineer Roli Mosimann). Instead of John Davis, Yosi Fine played on the live tour in 2006 and Janek Gwizdala in 2007.

history

Nerve was started in spring 1998 as an experimental platform. The idea behind Nerve is to perform the electronic music of the DJ cultures , usually created purely with computers, live with a band . All sounds are played by musicians with instruments and processed by the sound engineer in real time. While there are certain basic structures on which the songs are based, the majority of the live performance is based on improvisation.

After several successful appearances by Nerve, the concept Prohibited Beatz , a multimedia party event in New York clubs, quickly emerged , at which the band is complemented by other musicians, DJs and video artists.

Nerve was originally intended as a pure live project, but due to the high demand from the audience, an album was finally recorded in 2007. Due to various difficulties in getting an international release with record companies, the CD has not yet been released in the normal way. The album "Prohibited Beats" has been available in the iTunes Store since June 2009 . The band has been back in the studio since the end of 2009, and the first final recordings followed in early 2010. It is planned to release several mini EPs in the course of 2010 .

On April 13, 2014 Nerve posted on their website:

“Hey everyone, we hope the first little bit of 2014 has been treating you well. We have a few big changes going on here that we would like to share with you. First of all, and most importantly, Takuya will not be performing with Nerve on our upcoming dates. During the last year, as many of you know, Tak was on tour with Coco Rosie and also performing with his band, Cosmic BB's, and Jojo and John did a number of duo Nerve gigs, as well as a residency at Nublu with various guests . We have decided that at this moment, our respective artistic visions are not aligned, and for the time being it is best to continue in this manner. We would like everyone to know that this is happening out of a deep mutual musical respect, and desire to do what is right for the music. We wish Tak the best in the pursuit of his art, and hope to collaborate again in the future.

Upcoming concerts featuring Jojo and John will be at Nublu NYC on 3/24, Nublu Jazz Festival in Brazil on 3/27 and 28, and Glasslands, BK on 4/9. Event pages to be shared shortly.

We look forward to seeing you out there! "

Since then Jacob Bergson has been part of the band and takes over Takuya's part.
