Big Zis (born May 1, 1976 in Winterthur ; real life Franziska Schläpfer ) is a Swiss rapper from Winterthur in the canton of Zurich . Her stage name comes from her first name Fran- Zis -ka .

Life

At 16, the woman from Winterthur moved to the squatter scene in Zurich. That's where she found hip hop . Big Zis completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter after leaving high school and worked on construction sites. In summer she worked on the alp. In addition, she began to make music successfully and won several prizes. She made up her Matura , studied film studies and philosophy , but dropped out again.

Big Zis came to rap when she met the rappers from Gleiszwei in 1995 . In 1998 she and Bligg were heard for the first time on a sound carrier, the “Zürislang” sampler.

While the style on the first album was still fairly clearly hip-hop with electro influences, this has now moved towards more rocky and punky tones. Most of the texts are in Swiss German and provoke with their content and hearty vocabulary, which never lose their ironic undertone. Their fecal language is again a topic in the song Zis may everything . Other songs tell thoughtful stories such as Kontra or Gsee nüüt . With exaggerated self-portrayal, in songs like BIGZIS or in the video Hunger , she targets the arrogance and clichés in the hip-hop scene.

Collaboration in the studio and on stage with various Swiss rappers and musicians such as Greis , Kutti MC , Sophie Hunger and Diens ( Root 5 ), Nadja Zela , Gleiszwei , paar @ ohrä, Dj Mad Madam, Valentino Tomasi and others. Knarf Rellöm and DJ Patex from Hamburg are also featured on the album “Dörf alles” .

The third album "And now ... what does that do to me?" was released on January 30, 2009. The album received very good reviews in the Swiss press and was awarded the jury prize at the 2010 Swiss Music Awards. Marton di Katz and Valentino Tomasi from the environment of Kalabrese's Rumpelorchester appeared as main producers. Big Zis attaches great importance to the implementation of their tracks in moving images. Every single track on her third album is given a video clip. The drawn short film for the single Biberräis , for which the Zurich painter Grrrr picks up a pen, is nominated for the Solothurn Film Festival.

In the studio and on stage, she worked with numerous Swiss rap greats and musicians. From 2010 it was almost over, in 2013 another single was released. After that, Big Zis set other priorities and had three children in six years.
