Nadja Zela (2011)

Nadja Zela (born May 10, 1971 in Zurich ) is a rock musician from Zurich, Switzerland. The singer, songwriter and guitarist moves stylistically between black music, blues and alternative rock. Zela also works as a graphic designer. She lives in Zurich with her two children. She is the widow of the draftsman Christophe Badoux († 2016).

Artistic career

Nadja Zela composes rock, americana, blues, folk and black music. She is also a copywriter of her works and writes mainly in English, occasionally in German and Swiss German. She is considered an unconventional singer with a powerful blues voice and lyrical songwriting.

Zela was a co-founder of the Swiss-wide known women's band Rosebud together with the filmmaker Anna Luif, as well as a founding member and singer of the roundabouts with the filmmaker Micha Lewinsky. She played bass for the musician Roli Strobel's Zurich band Fingerpoke (Hora Band).

In the 1980s and 1990s she gave indie rock a female voice in Switzerland. In addition to the big music festivals, she played in smaller clubs, e.g. B. with Rosebud as the first resident band in the Zurich Helsinki Klub . In 2002 she released her first solo CD, Four Track Songs , a collection of songs that she had recorded for years on her own with a four-track cassette player . In 2006 she founded the rock'n'Soul band Fifty Foot Mama (2005 - 2009), which released the album Hard and Soul on the up-and-coming Zurich indie label Kuenstli.ch. The band consisted of the former rhythm section of "Der böse Bub Eugen". After the breakup, she worked with the drummer "Fish" in a duo under her own name.

In 2009 she released her second solo album Ciao Amore , which she wrote, recorded, mixed and produced by herself again. For the release of the album she founded the label "Patient Records".

In 2012, Wrong Side Of Town , their third solo album (recorded and produced by Olifr Maurmann aka GUZ der Aeronauten ), was released, which achieved considerable independent success in Switzerland and was able to break the borders between German and French-speaking Switzerland.

In 2016 Zela released the album Immaterial World , which is thematically dedicated to the capitalist end-time mood.
