Carl Marizy

Carl Marizy (born October 20, 1909 in Münster , † November 27, 1996 in Bremen ) was a Catholic prelate and director of Caritas Bremen.

biography

Marizy came to Bremen in 1914, he graduated from the old grammar school by 1928 . He studied Catholic theology at the University of Münster . In 1934 he was ordained a priest . He then worked at a Hamburg community and in 1939 at a Kiel community. During World War II he was a naval pastor and then from 1944 to 1949 in Soviet captivity. He then also studied social sciences in Münster and was initially employed as a pastor in Bremen , at the same time he gave religious instruction, worked for Radio Bremen and for the Bremen adult education center. In 1961 he was commissioned to set up the Caritas Association in Bremen. I.a. He built and managed the "Kolpinghaus" youth hostel on Kolpingstrasse. He became director of Caritas. In 1969 he was appointed papal honorary chaplain with the title of Monsignor (Msgr). After the establishment of the Malteser Aid Service in Bremen, the state office was managed on a voluntary basis by City Commissioner Günter Schuppert, supported by Caritas Director Msgr. Marizy. In 1985 he retired and in 1984 he received the Federal Cross of Merit .
