Kalabrese (born Sacha Winkler on January 14, 1973 in Zurich ) is a Swiss musician and music producer .

Career

As a drummer, he played in the Swiss hip-hop band Sendak from 1994 to 1998 and recorded an EP and two CDs with them. After leaving the band, he began a reorientation towards electronic dance music and increasingly began to appear as a DJ in the Zurich scene .

His first 12 "release Airolo (2000) on the Zurich label Stattmusik can be assigned to Minimal House . The next release Chicken Fried Rice (2004) was on the Berlin minimal label Perlon , with his music stylistically moving in the direction of minimal funk with Live Elements, which was rather untypical for the label, where he used his voice, which was later felt by many to be characteristic of his productions, in a kind of spoken chant .

With the track Auf dem Hof from the EP Hühnerfest he achieved an underground club hit in 2005, which was remixed several times . In 2007, after a year and a half of work, his debut album Rumpel Zirkus was released . The album was an electronic-acoustic mixture of minimal house , funk and folk . It was created with the participation of musicians friends in Zurich and received numerous positive reviews in the international music press. Several of these musicians formed and continue to form the “Rumpelorchester” band, including Valentino Tomasi (piano, keys, electronics), Michael Flury (trombone), Benjamin Danech (trumpet) and Marton di Katz (bass).

Tours with the live band Rumpelorchester took him in 2007/2008 and with the follow-up album "Independent Dancer" a. a. to the following locations and festivals: Sonar Festival ( Barcelona ), Mutek Festival ( Montreal ), Communikey Festival ( Boulder (Colorado) ), several concert halls in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Turkey.
