Julian Sartorius

Julian Sartorius (* 1981 in Thun ) is a Swiss jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , percussion , composition ).

Live and act

Sartorius received his first drum lessons at the age of five. After being active in local underground bands, he studied at the Swiss Jazz School and in Lucerne with Fabian Kuratli , Pierre Favre and Norbert Pfammatter .

Sartorius was part of Sophie Hunger's band from 2008 to 2010 ; then he was a member of the groups of Co Streiff and Stefan Aeby ( Are You ...? ). He currently plays in the trio of Colin Vallon and in the band of Bruno Spoerri . He has also worked with musicians such as Jean-Paul Bourelly , Matthew Herbert , Shahzad Ismaily , Sylvie Courvoisier , Fred Frith , Rhys Chatham , Dimlite , Johanna Borchert , Christoph Gallio , Sha , Roland Zoss and Merz . In 2013 he founded the Sartorius Drum Ensemble (with Lionel Friedli , Peter Conradin Zumthor and Arno Troxler).

Sartorius also makes a solo appearance and has released several solo albums, including the 12-LP box Beat Diary with 365 beats, one of which he created on each day of 2011. He toured Europe as well as North and South America. His video installation “Sleeps a Song in All Things” was presented in art galleries.
