Live and act

Zumthor, whose father is the architect Peter Zumthor , dropped out of violin training at kindergarten age. His father made him familiar with jazz music at an early age ; It was only through hip-hop that he found his way back to active music making and learned to play the drums, mostly as an autodidact . At the age of 19 he played in Werner Lüdi's (last) trio . He is present on national and international stages with his projects; for example in a duo with the pianist Vera Kappeler , as a soloist, or with the drums theater "The Back Door" with Fritz Hauser and Rob Kloet . He plays in the Duo Azeotrop with Dominik Blum on the Hammond organ . Concert tours have taken him to over a dozen countries. Zumthor also works on the interfaces between music and the visual arts. He implemented the bell tower bells that were prepared and thus changed in sound for both music and art festivals.

Zumthor initiated numerous projects and formations. He was involved in premieres of new music , gave solo concerts, played theater music and composed architecture-specific music and set literature to music. He worked with the composers Felix Profos and David Dramm as well as with the musicians Christian Weber , Anna Trauffer, Fritz Hauser, Achim Escher and Marek Otwinowski, Jürg Kienberger, Julian Sartorius and with the Ukrainian writer Juri Andruchowytsch ( Werwolf Sutra ). With Samuel Streiff he developed the radio play Schlachten (2014).

On the occasion of the Bern Music Festival 2017, Zumthor and Kappeler wrapped skins around the clapper of the seven bells of the Bern Minster under the title Con sordino .
