Tommaso Traversa (born August 4, 1990 in Turin ) is an Italian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ritten Sport in the Alps Hockey League since October 2016 .
Career
Tommaso Traversa began his playing career with the former first division club HC Courmaosta and moved to Real Torino Hockey Club in 2005 . He played there for the next five years and was part of the men's team in Serie A1 from 2008 . In this second Italian league he had already played at HC Valpellice and the All Stars Piemonte, where he had made guest appearances in 2006 and 2007/08. As a 16-year-old, he was also active for a short time for the MHC Prievidza in Slovak youth leagues. In 2010 he moved to the United States, where he first played for a year with the Bay State Breakers in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. From 2011 to 2015 he was on the ice for the Hobart College team in the third division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Then the ECHL club Alaska Aces signed him . In 2016 he returned to Europe, where he initially worked for the Dundee Stars in the Elite Ice Hockey League , which he left after five games in October 2016 to join Ritten Sport from the newly founded Alps Hockey League . With the South Tyroleans, he was able to win both this transnational league and the Italian championship title , which was played between the best Italian clubs in the Alps Hockey League , in 2017 . At the beginning of the following season he also won the Supercoppa Italiana with Ritten . In 2018 he became Italian champion again.
International
In the junior division, Traversa took part for Italy in the U18 World Cup in Division I in 2008 , when he was the best goal setter and top scorer, as well as in the U20 World Championships in Division II in 2008 and Division I in 2009 and 2010 .
Traversa made his debut in the Italian men's national team in the 2010/11 season. His first appearance at a major tournament was at the World Cup Division I in 2016 , when the Italians were promoted to the top division. There he could not keep up with the Azzurri at the 2017 World Cup and had to relegate to Division I. There he played at the 2018 World Cup . He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
