characters

main characters

Bruno

Bruno is a brave boy: despite his inferior size, he takes on three older boys. He is helped by his beloved and recently deceased grandfather, who appears to him in a dream at night. With a lot of imagination and creativity he becomes the avenger of his hut: Brauno.

Minor characters

Matzo

Matze is Bruno's best friend. He goes to church meetings with his mother, the meaning of which he does not understand, and he has all sorts of crazy stories from his father that he tells his friend Bruno. As Schwarzke, he shows just as much courage and imagination as his two friends.

Laura

Laura also belongs to the superhero team. The other two can always find refuge in their house when they have to flee from the older boys. She often tells stories of her crazy grandma that make the others laugh. Out of a thirst for adventure, she wants to take part in the colorful expeditions of her friends as Blaura.

Bruno's grandfather

Bruno's grandfather has died - but he still dreams of visiting Bruno. An adventurer and storyteller, he's played just as crazy pranks as his grandson. As a memento, he leaves Bruno a gold watch that appears to have special powers.

The three older boys: Ruben from Drammen, Anton, the pastor's son

The three older boys' favorite pastime is annoying the little ones: They destroy the hut, throw stones at Laura's window and let a firecracker explode in Matzes mailbox. Although they don't stop at the destruction of someone else's property themselves, when it comes to their own things, they quickly become rubbish.

Literary criticism

Super Bruno received an overall positive response from the press. The Süddeutsche Zeitung sees the book as a "wonderful opportunity for parents to read to their children again, perhaps one last time, but with particular enjoyment, before this evening ritual becomes too uncool for the youngsters." ( Markus C. Schulte von Drach , March 14, 2016). The Geolino described it as "A warm, really funny story about friendship, courage and the power of imagination that turns little big heroes." (Catherine of Ruschkowski, March 1, 2016)
