Johanna Borchert (* 1983 in Berlin ) is a German jazz pianist , singer and composer .

Live and act

Borchert grew up in Bremen. After studying jazz piano and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen , where u. a. She was trained by David Friedman , Hubert Nuss and Django Bates , followed by stays in Chennai, India to study Indian classical music and at Mills College, California, to collaborate with Fred Frith and Chris Brown .

Today she lives and works in both Copenhagen and Berlin . Just like with the band Schneeweiss & Rosenrot , with whom she released three albums, she toured with her band project Little Red Suitcase through many countries in Europe, but also in Asia and North America. Since 2010 Borchert has also been on the road with solo programs. Deutschlandradio Kultur broadcast their appearance in A-Trane (with Markus Pesonen (g), Julian Sartorius (dr) and Derek Sherley (b)) at the Jazzfest Berlin 2014 as a recording on February 2, 2015.

Prizes and awards

In 2012 she was nominated at the Danish Music Awards with the nonet The Big Bang , which performed compositions by her and Elena Setién . The CD They'll learn much more than you'll never know by Little Red Suitcase was nominated there in 2006, and the CD Temporarily Out of Order in 2008 . In 2012 she won the New German Jazz Prize with Schneeweiss & Rosenrot . In 2015 she was awarded the Echo Jazz in the category “best female singer national” for her album FM Biography .
