Jesper Løvdal

Jesper Løvdal (born September 12, 1969 ) is a Danish jazz musician ( saxophone , clarinet , bass clarinet and composition ).

Live and act

Løvdal had piano lessons at the music school in Hillerød from 1977 , but stopped after three years before he discovered the saxophone in 1983. From 1986 he took part in various workshops, where he was instructed by Bob Rockwell , Tomas Franck , Kenny Werner and Jukkis Uotila . In 1993 he obtained a Bachelor of Music and Cultural Informatics ( Humanistic Informatics ) from the University of Copenhagen and then studied in 1993/94 at The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. There he played u. a. with Billy Harper , Dave Liebman , Lee Konitz , Clark Terry , Maria Schneider , Reggie Workman , Bill Evans and Richie Beirach . In 2001 he graduated from the Rytmisk Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen.

Løvdal first played in the Axel Boys Quartet . Since the 2000s he worked a. a. in recordings by Ib Glindemann , Mårten Lundgren, Benjamin Koppel ( Babop ) and the bands Out to Lunch and Little Red Big Bang . Since 2004 he has been recording under his own name, u. a. with his formation Lovedale . In 2000 Løvdal became a member of the Danish composers' association Danske Jazz, Beat og Folkemusik Autorer ; In 2001 he was on the board of the Danish Jazz Federation. He is chairman of the Dansk Jazzmusikerforening .

Prizes and awards

Løvdal won the competition at the Gexto Festival in 1998 with his band Out to Lunch . In the same year he received the first prize for the best arrangement of a given composition at the 1998 Eurocontest. In 2002 the Frederiksborg Office awarded him its cultural award.
