Bill Evans ( William D. Evans ) (* 9. February 1958 in Clarendon Hills , Illinois ) is an American jazz - and Pop - saxophonist .

Evans took piano lessons from his father, learned clarinet from the age of 11 and studied at North Texas State University and William Paterson College in New Jersey, taking lessons with David Liebman in New York and with musicians such as Thad Jones , Liebman, Joanne Brackeen and Art Blakey jammed. In the early 1980s he played with Mark Egan and Danny Gottlieb on Elements .

His instruments are mainly tenor and soprano saxophones, but he also plays the piano during his performances and sings individual pieces. He achieved great fame as a sideman with Miles Davis (1980 to 1984) and plays a. a. with Randy Brecker , John Scofield , Les McCann , Lee Ritenour , Vinnie Colaiuta , Herbie Hancock , David Sanborn , Ron Carter , Mick Jagger , Victor Bailey , Dave Weckl , Dennis Chambers , Dino Betti van der Noot and Victor Wooten . From 1981 he played more often with Gil Evans' band . From 1984 he was a member of John McLaughlin's newly launched Mahavishnu Orchestra .

Since 2018 he has been on the road with Bill Evans & The Spy Killers (including Wolfgang Haffner , Claus Fischer and Simon Oslender ).
