Dino Betti van der Noot (* 18 September 1936 in Rapallo ) is an Italian Jazz - Pianist , Big Band -Leader, arranger and composer.

Betti's mother and a cousin were classical pianists; from 1946 to 1951 he had lessons at the music school in Pavia and in 1959 private lessons in Milan . In the 1970s he studied at Berklee College of Music . At the end of the 1950s he was leading his own formations in Italy; but he was active outside the music scene in the 1960s. From 1969 to 1978 he led an amateur big band, with which he also recorded an album ( Basement Big Band , 1978). From 1982 he worked with a professional big band a. a. with Franco Ambrosetti , Paul Bley , Bill Evans , David Friedman , Danny Gottlieb , Donald Harrison , Carmen Lundy , Paul Motian , Giancarlo Schiaffini , Steve Swallow and Gianluigi Trovesi . Since the 1980s Betti has been head of the Milan advertising agency B Communications full-time, for whom he also composed numerous jingles . In 1987 he worked with his own big band in New York. Since 1985 he has recorded a number of albums with his own formations, for which he also wrote the compositions and arrangements, for the Innowo and Soul Note labels .

Prizes and awards

He received the Musica Jazz Polillo Award for his album They Cannot Know . The album Space Blossoms won the critics' poll of Musica e Dischi in 1989 . Here Comes Springtime was the third best album of 1986 according to USA Today .
