Carmen Lundy

Carmen Latretta Lundy (born November 1, 1954 in Miami , Florida , USA) is an American jazz musician (vocals, composition) and actress.

Live and act

Lundy sang in gospel choirs and rhythm & blues bands as a teenager . At the University of Miami , she first studied classical singing, then composition and jazz theory until 1978. She then moved to New York City , where she first sang with the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Big Band and Ray Barretto . She played Billie Holiday in a Broadway production and visited Europe a little later with the show " Sophisticated Ladies ". From 1980 she led her own groups in which u. a. John Hicks , Fred Wesley , Cedar Walton , Walter Bishop and their brother, Curtis Lundy , played. Her debut album Good Morning Kiss (1985) was already among the top ten in the jazz category in Billboard Poll (poll). Tours and festival appearances in Europe followed. On the next albums u. a. Kenny Kirkland , Kevin Eubanks , Chico Freeman , Bob Mintzer , Randy Brecker and Harry Whitaker . She can also be heard on several albums by Dino Betti van der Noot and Kip Hanrahan and has worked with Don Pullen , Marian McPartland , Ernie Watts and Bobby Watson . In 2006 she was a guest vocalist on Geri Allen's album Timeless Portraits and Dreams .

Lundy also works as an actress and painter and teaches at US universities.
