action

The film takes place on the French Channel coast: Caroline gave up her profession as a dentist for reasons of age. Since she now has a lot of time, her daughters have given her a taster course at the senior leisure club The beautiful days . She didn't like the acting class; that's why she takes a computer course. Although she is married, she falls in love with the much younger professor Julien. They love each other in his apartment and in the club's rooms. Julien admits that he came to her practice as a boy to see her in a doctor's coat.

Caroline's husband Philippe, who is also a dentist, soon discovers their affair and moves into a hotel. Meanwhile, Caroline wants to travel to Iceland with Julien . When they have to wait at the airport for the delayed flight and Julien meets a younger woman, Caroline realizes that their relationship is coming to an end. Julien flies without her. Caroline and Philippe reunite during a trip to the beach with the other course participants from the senior club.

Reviews

For Cinema , Die Schöne Tage was “romantic and realistic at the same time: the unexcited chronicle of a stormy affair”. Der Spiegel stated that director Vernoux apparently couldn't get enough of leading actress Fanny Ardant: “She follows her heroine, who was first so lifeless and then through radical devotion, excessively on long lonely walks on the beach. The tone remains light, the sun over the sea shows Ardant's face in the brightest colors. "
