Ilgen-Nur (born February 10, 1996 in Wendlingen am Neckar , civil Ilgen-Nur Borali ) is a German musician.

Life

Their musical socialization within a typical working-class family, in which mainly Turkish music was played, took place via MTV and VIVA . At the age of 11 she learned to play the piano, at 16 to play the guitar and soon published her first cover songs on YouTube . In 2015 she moved to Hamburg. When there wasn't enough money left for the rent, she grappled with what she actually wanted to do with her life - the basis for her EP was in place. No Emotions was recorded and produced by Max Rieger ( The Nerves , All these Violence), Paul Pötsch von Trümmer played drums, guitar and bass , who remained as a guitarist for the Ilgen-Nur band project . Ilgen-Nur is ambivalent about her reputation of being the new German slacker queen and noted that as a musician you have to "get your ass up and write songs and play concerts". In 2017 she supported Kele Okereke from Bloc Party in his solo performances. In 2018 she went on tour as an opener with Tocotronic .

As a band, Ilgen-Nur is out and about with Paul Pötsch on guitar, Laurens Bauer on bass and Simon Starz on drums. In 2019 she plays at the Heimspiel Knyphausen , the Lollapalooza , the c / o Pop and the Haldern Pop Festival , brings out her debut album Power Nap and moves to Berlin.

Musical influences

Ilgen-Nur writes song lyrics about the fears, problems and thoughts in the life of an early 20-year-old in English, the music is shaped by the lo-fi scene . Musikexpress magazine characterizes its style as guitar-heavy indie pop somewhere between Kate Nash and Courtney Barnett . She says about her musical roots: “I actually had a very powerful moment when I heard Kate Nash's Made Of Bricks CD . I listened to the album completely when I was ten or eleven and it was clear to me that I wanted to make music too. That was my moment, I think. "

reception

The debut album Power-Nap "was named one of the albums of the year" for 2019 and received positive reviews:

  • "Your songs are the coolest thing you have heard in the German indie scene lately." ( Tagesspiegel )
  • "Hardly anyone grasps the state of mind of this generation on the way to their thirties, let's call them" Z ", in such well-turned, but nevertheless laconic and above all poetic lines." ( Musikexpress )
  • “The title [ Power Nap ] refers to a short nap, which should quickly increase performance. The name is almost in contrast to the sound of the record, which is powerful, but also very casual. "( NDR Info , Nachtclub & Nightlounge)
  • " Duvet-soft guitar pop with references to Shoegaze , noise and a certain surfiness, the best from the 90s until now and as catchy as a Sunday morning that you can't defend yourself against:" Honey, I'm butter on toast "." ( Visions )
  • “It took Ilgen-Nur Borali [...] two years and a cassette to go from bedroom musician to songwriter that the German indie scene wanted so much: [they] don't have a completely new approach to guitar music [finds], but alternatives to the stories of the white straight boys who have long dominated the genre. ”( Spiegel Online )
