The c / o pop ( Cologne On Pop ) is a music festival that in since 2004 Cologne is organized. C / o pop is considered the successor to Popkomm , which was relocated to Berlin in 2003 . C / o pop consists of a music festival and an industry meeting (convention). The festival programmatically covers urban, experimental, alternative and electronic forms of pop music . The c / o pop Convention deals with topics from the music industry, the digital media industry, electronic media and marketing strategies. In 2017 more than 30,000 visitors came to the festival, the industry get-together was attended by around 1200 trade visitors .

Structures

Since 2004 the festival has been bringing national and international acts from the fields of electro, indie and related styles to Cologne's indoor and outdoor stages. These include established artists as well as newcomers. Over the years, the focus has shifted more and more towards national newcomers - after all, the c / o pop festival sees itself as a festival of discovery.

The festival highlights include numerous special events such as the popNRW Award, at which the best acts from NRW are selected, label evenings at which national and international showcases take place and networking events at which labels, musicians and other actors meet get to know from the music field.

In 2019 the makers revised the entire c / o pop concept and also made a double move: For the first time, the festival took place at the beginning of the season and thus in May and moved from the Belgian Quarter to the colorful Cologne Ehrenfeld. The concept has also been further developed in terms of content. From 2019, all paid shows will take place from the festival Wednesday to Friday throughout Cologne, while 60 more concerts and showcases will be held on the weekend at c / o Ehrenfeld in the district of the same name. In addition to indoor and outdoor concerts, c / o Ehrenfeld offers an extensive supporting program with cultural, sporting and political activities on the festival Saturday and Sunday. All program items and concerts are free.

The c / o pop Convention will take place in Cologne parallel to the c / o pop festival. With Herbrand's in the Ehrenfeld district as the location, the c / o pop Convention is also moving even closer to the festival.

The convention is the first industry get-together of the year for the music industry and cooperating industries such as the digital economy and games. For three days, keynotes, panel discussions, presentations, workshops and trainings give a practical look into the future. There are also plenty of opportunities to network.

history

The first c / o pop festival was planned from 2003 by Cologne artists as a reaction to popkomm's emigration to Berlin. It took place for the first time in 2004. In 2005 the c / o pop festival took place from August 24th to 28th at the same time as the Ringfest .

In 2010, the c / o pop took place as a festival and convention for the first time from June 23 to 28, 2010 in Cologne with up to 30,000 visitors again. The C 'n' B (Creative Business Convention) trade fair, which was taking place at the same time in the State House in Rheinpark, was attended by 1,400 guests. The end of June was chosen to allow more international industry representatives to attend, and the date during the semester is intended to make it easier for universities to participate in the conference program. In addition, there is now the possibility of cooperation with the Medienforum NRW .
