album Advanced Chemistry

Ahnma [ a: nmɑ: ] is a song of the Hamburg hip-hop - music group Beginner . The song is the first single from their fourth studio album Advanced Chemistry , which was released on August 26, 2016 on the Vertigo Berlin label. It is the first piece of music on the album ("opening track") and was recorded together with rapper Gzuz and reggae musician Gentleman . The music video shot for this was published on the Internet on June 3, 2016 .

Because of the "mixing of various styles" and unusual featureings , the song received controversial reviews . When it was released, the rap song reached number eight in Germany and stayed in the German single charts for over 20 weeks . For the lead single one was monochrome music video in Hamburg turned, in which the band and the two musicians involved in 15 locations in the vicinity of the Port of Hamburg and the same poses and rap. The music video had been viewed around 53 million times on YouTube by June 2020.

Emergence

According to Jan Eißfeldt, the American rapper Kendrick Lamar was the inspiration for Ahnma with his song The Blacker the Berry from the 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly : “At some point in the song comes a dancehall artist with a deep voice and starts crazy to sing: I said they treat me like a slave, cah 'me black . And then the beat comes back and lets go of the energy, and you think: That's exactly what we need. ”The dancehall artist not named is the Jamaican singer Jeffrey Campbell aka Assasin .

In an interview with the hip-hop magazine Juice, he added: "We had this fat beat, two great verses, but no idea for a hook." Then he had the idea, "over a rough hip-hop beat such a Mavado - like dancehall guys roar. ”And so they asked Kristoffer Jonas Klauss alias Gzuz, because he was the only one“ in Germany who brings this brutality with him vocally ”. According to Dennis Lisk, the song and its hookline are not intended as a challenge to other hip-hop strongholds such as Berlin or Stuttgart, but rather as a "homage to their hometown".

The label uses the exclusively US-American formations Public Enemy , Lil Wayne , Rick Rubin , The Neptunes , Dr. Dre and Just Blaze called. The song was composed by Jan Eißfeldt, Dennis Lisk and Tilmann Otto and sung together with the Hamburg gangsta rapper Gzuz and the Cologne reggae musician Gentleman in a recording studio in Hamburg-Ottensen . Kaspar "Tropf" Wiens and Fiji Kris are named as co-producers of the album.

The song has a length of 4:14 minutes at a tempo of 81 beats per minute . The title Ahnma is a youth slang for the imperative "(Er) ahne das mal" in the sense of "Do you get it?".

content

Except for the refrain written by Gentleman in Jamaican-Creole language (patois) , the lyrics are in German. The introductory sentence in the intro comes from the German-Haitian hip-hop rapper Torch , whose band name is referenced in the album title: “Yes, Advanced Chemistry . Beginner ". In the first stanza Eizi Eiz outlines his instrumentation and exemplarily the cross-milieu addressees as well as their positive reaction to his renewed work. The rapper claims that his level of fame is the result of decades of historically significant lyrical work, the first hits of which in the late 1990s were prenatal for some and withstand comparison with a well-known 69-year-old Hamburg footballer. In the four-line hook line, Gzuz states that gestures and language tones typical of the scene from the Hamburg area have long since flowed into the mainstream and announces that the Hanseatic city will be repositioned more clearly. According to gentlemen in the chorus, the masses are still moving, from Hamburg to the south of the country. In the second stanza Denyo describes his physical and mental condition and how he meets the “crisis of meaning” of the rap scene with a positive attitude and “taste”, in which “every Jens-Peter makes a boss.” At the end of the song there is twice the audio sample "Still the beats bang" by US rapper Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg from the song Still DRE .

Music video

The black and white music video was recorded with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 and uses well-known locations in the Hanseatic city as a rap backdrop.

The song begins "dark and massive with ship horn fanfares" and after four drone aerial shots in the extreme long shot of the Hamburg harbor and the city center , in which a zoom effect stretches and compresses the image, the music video starts at the museum harbor Oevelgönne on the northwestern edge of the harbor, where Denyo and DJ Mad stand and Eizi Eiz intones the first verse . A tracking shot in time lapse leads to the fishing port a little further east . The third location is further up the Elbe in a small alley on Grosse Elbstrasse next to the Hafenklang club . The next stop is a small flight of stairs to Park Fiction next to the Golden Poodle Club . In the park under the tin palms, Eizi Eiz describes himself as “the veteran of the Reeperbahn, I've got Hamburg behind me, as if I were Uwe Seeler , man!”, While this same legend of Hamburger SV stands next to him. The camera continues to roll in fast motion along the edge of the harbor to the baumall . At the ferry canal on the south side of the Norderelbe, Gzuz raps the first bridge with the Überseebrücke in the background , which ends with the hookline : "We're putting Hamburg back on the map."

Then a gentleman sings the refrain in patois on the bunker at Heiligengeistfeld . Denyo raps first at the foot of the Baldwin staircase on Hafenstrasse and then 24 meters deeper in the east tube of the St. Pauli Elbe tunnel before the camera jumps to the Neuhof ferry terminal with the Köhlbrand Bridge in the background. At Waltershofer Damm, the beginners first stand on a pedestrian scaffolding bridge and then on the flood protection wall in front of the Burchardkai container terminal . In a covered track harp with track systems that have now been dismantled between the goods halls on Stockmeyerstraße in the Oberhafen, the partially undressed Gzuz raps the second bridge, which closes with another shot on the Kirchenpauerkai on the Baakenhafen in front of the Freihafenelbbrücken . In between, Gzuz is shown briefly - oversized - standing on the head of the Bismarck monument .

The video ends with a stance setting ( "Pose-shot") of the band along with Gentleman, Ferris MC , Samy Deluxe , D-Flame , DJ Stylewarz , Afrob , five-star deluxe , Deichkind and other musicians on the roof of the anti-aircraft bunker IV on Feldstrasse above Club Uebel & Hazardous .

The video was produced by Noyz'r'Uz and Paul's Boutique on behalf of the major label Universal Music , director was David Aufdembrinke and executive producer David Mohn. In September 2016, the music video was awarded a prize for pop culture in the “Favorite Video ” category.

Reviews

“A beat blows around your ears, as if you were standing close to the foghorn of a container ship, damaging your health. Jan Delay, who is now called Eizi Eiz again, poses at the harbor and raps: For the Obernerds and the boozing proles / The altar boys, crack dealers, old 68ers . The beginners want to dissolve the opposites again, everything from Eppendorfer Weg to Beat Street in one flow, in a rhyme, a cool pose and one word, the title of the track: Ahnma . "

“The basses roll through the room, Ahnma rolls up like a threatening, beautiful monster. Goosebumps form under the beads of sweat. The beginners never need a new show opener again. This song has everything to get people going. "

- Hanna Zobel : Hamburger Morgenpost

“With the beat and the gentleman hook you tend to please the old fans. But that's exactly where the problem lies: Ahnma could just as well be a song on Blast Action Heroes , on an album that was released almost 13 years ago. The beat does not sound timeless, but out of date. The patois hook from Tilmann Otto alias Gentleman is especially true. "

- Jonathan Nixdorff : splash! Like

“Gzuz shoots the hookline so inimitably authentic and cool that your blood freezes in your veins and then you just celebrate. [...] The beginners' rap parts are clever and classy. Jan Delay delivers in the old manner just like Dennis Lisk aka Denyo perfectly. Maybe even better than ever. "

- Jan-Christopher Sierks : Media pilot

“The song comes across as somber and threatening: alarming brass sounds, harpsichord-like clinking, high-pitched dumbbells. Keeping it extra simple. A board of a beat, the hip-hop lover would say. If you can compare classical and hip-hop, the song is a bit the opposite of Edvard Grieg's 'Morgenstimmung' . Not promising, but frightening - you get goose bumps. "

- Frederike Arns : Express
