The museum harbor Oevelgönne serves as a berth for museum and traditional ships and historical boats in Övelgönne , it is located in the southern part of Hamburg-Othmarschen and Hamburg-Ottensen .

Privately owned by Museumshafen Oevelgönne eV , an association for the preservation of historical watercraft, it is the oldest German museum harbor , based on the model of which many museum and traditional shipping harbors on the North and Baltic Sea coasts were founded. All historical watercraft are currently also in working order.

The association maintains the tradition of old work boats that used to be in use on the Elbe . Without the association's work, these ships would probably have long since been scrapped and no longer accessible to the public.

The museum harbor is located on the northern bank of the Norderelbe at the Neumühlen / Oevelgönne pier , which is also served by the HADAG ferry route 62 . The port on the Neumühlen side ( Ottensen district ) is dominated by the tall building of the Augustinum senior citizens' home , which is based on the former Union cold store from the 1920s, one of the last evidence of port use at this point. To the west is the Övelgönne (to Othmarschen ) , which can only be reached by footpaths, with its old houses on the Elbe beach below the Geest slope , often built by pilots and fishermen . Opposite, in Waltershof on the southern side of the North Elbe, the Burchardkai container terminal extends and illustrates the handling in today's Hamburg port .

Club and history

The private association was founded in 1976 by the architect Volkwin Marg , among others . With around 500 volunteer members, it pursues the following goals:

  • Decommissioned vessels from commercial vessels that are characteristic of the maritime history of the North German coastal region and monumental character who shall be acquired, restored and presented in driving are kept,
  • In Hamburg-Altona , the museum harbor is to continue to be operated and maintained in order to make the above-mentioned watercraft accessible to a broad public.

Due to journeys, also to other ports, repair and maintenance measures, not all vehicles can be found at their berths at all times. A few smaller boats are also laid ashore in winter or moved to ice-free harbors.
