The Norderelbe is a section of the Lower Elbe in Hamburg between the river kilometers 609 and 626. Together with the branching off Süderelbe and the adjoining Köhlbrand , it forms a so-called inland delta , the Elbe island Wilhelmsburg . Like the entire Lower Elbe, the area is affected by the tides of the North Sea .

Like the entire Elbe in Germany, the Norderelbe is a federal waterway . From km 607.50 near Oortkaten it is a so-called delegation route, i. H. Administration and maintenance are carried out on behalf of the federal government by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

She is the namesake of the Norderelbe motorway triangle on the A 1 and A 255 motorways .

course

At river kilometer 609 at the Bunthäuser Spitze , the Elbe stream coming from the southeast divides into two parts. From here, the Norderelbe runs northwards and forms the border between the districts of Moorwerder and Ochsenwerder . Up to the level of river kilometer 615, where the Dove Elbe joins the main river, the Elbe flows through sparsely populated marshland . After the highway bridge Moorfleet the A1 run the Norderelbe swings to the west. This is where the spacious port facilities of Hamburg begin, which accompany the section to its end at river kilometer 626 and beyond. It is crossed by Bundesstraße 4 and the Hanover – Hamburg railway on the Norderelbbrücken (km 619) and the old Elbe tunnel (km 623).

Port facilities / sights

The Norderelbe is characterized by numerous port facilities. The historic core of the Port of Hamburg developed from here. Well-known port and quay facilities are:

  • Speicherstadt
  • Hansahafen
  • Baakenhafen
  • Landungsbrücken
  • Überseebrücke
  • Chicagokai with cruise terminal ( HafenCity )

Former port facilities have been revitalized in recent years and now contain numerous sights. There are several museums and the Miniatur Wunderland in the historic warehouses of the Speicherstadt . The freighter Cap San Diego lies at the Überseebrücke . The landing stages were designed as a representative ship station. The Altona fish market takes place every Sunday morning. In the Museum Oevelgönne historic work boats moored.

Opposite the landing stages are the remains of the Blohm + Voss shipyard , today part of the Lürssen Group.
