Oberhafen
The Oberhafen is a port basin in Hamburg . It lies east of the Ericusgraben and parallel to the Baakenhafen and the Norderelbe .
HafenCity (Oberhafen district)
Oberhafen is a planned part of the HafenCity district in Hamburg .
location
The quarter is located in the northeast of HafenCity and includes the area south of the Oberhafen of the same name and is bordered in the south and west by the railway lines of the Hanover – Hamburg line , the former " pillar railway ".
use
The Oberhafen continued to be used for logistics purposes until at least 2014. The extensive new construction and renovation work began in 2019.
Planning
Currently there is only one road, the Oberhafenbrücke , into the Oberhafen district. The plan is to span the eastern end of the quarter and the railway line with a several hundred meter long bridge over the wholesale market and to connect the neighboring Baakenhafen quarter with the Hamburg-Hammerbrook district. A previously unspecified possibility (street, path, stairs, etc.) is to be created from this bridge to reach the quarter from the east. Further plans include building another crossing over the Oberhafen as an extension of the lock channel . As a further extension of this crossing, the railway line is also to be tunneled under so that the quarter can be reached from both sides. In the quarter itself, the existing warehouses are to be retained, unlike in other parts of the HafenCity. They are to be rebuilt and modernized and exclusively “serve cultural and creative economic purposes”. On the previous track areas, various sports facilities and a. be built for the schools in the surrounding neighborhoods.
