Location and initial situation

The quarter is located in the central area of HafenCity and borders on the water surface of the Magdeburg harbor to the west and opposite the Überseequartier , the central part of HafenCity. In the north, the Elbtorquartier borders on the Brooktorhafen and the Brooktorkai / Ericus district behind it, and in the east on the Am Lohsepark district . In the south the area is bounded by the Norderelbe .

A special feature of the Elbtorquartier is the more extensive maintenance and continued use of the existing buildings compared to the other sub-quarters.

concept

The development structure of the district largely follows an orthogonal order grid that is based on the existing development; At the Brooktorhafen , the Kaispeicher B , the so-called Heinemannspeicher and its extension form the northern end of the quarter. To the south, a closed block edge, which partly takes up existing buildings, and the elongated structure to the east of the Magdeburg harbor . This is adjoined by a trapezoidal structure, the shape of which is given in the north by the neighboring buildings and in the south by Überseeallee . South of Überseeallee are the solitary buildings of the HafenCity University and a high-rise. The latter do not adhere to the given order and are freely orientated in space.
