Mighty Oaks ( German as: "Mighty oaks") are a folk - band from Berlin , consisting of Ian Hooper, Claudio Donzelli and Craig Saunders. They celebrated their breakthrough in 2014 with their top 10 album Howl .
history
Singer and songwriter Ian Hooper comes from Washington , the northernmost state on the US west coast. He grew up in a town 40 miles south of Seattle , studying first in Portland , then in Munich. He has lived permanently in Germany since 2008. He met his comrades-in-arms Claudio Donzelli, a native Italian, and Craig Saunders, who came from England, during performances in Hamburg. Little by little, all three of them moved to Berlin. After various courses of study and jobs, they decided to concentrate entirely on music. The songs are characterized by three- part singing and the use of acoustic guitars and mandolins.
In 2010 the band released their first EP Driftwood Seat, which was recorded in Donzelli's living room, via Soundcloud . In 2012 the band recorded the EP Just One Day and played concerts with the Kings of Leon , Dry the River , Shout Out Louds and Chvrches as part of the Introducing! Trip. On July 5, 2013, the Just One Day EP was published independently and without a label. The single of the same name reached number 87 on the German single charts and the EP itself was now number 16 on the iTunes album charts. The Mighty Oaks performed at the Berlin Festival , MS Dockville , Lollapalooza Chicago and Berlin and Zurich Open Air , among others . In 2014 the band began their first solo tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Mighty Oaks contributed to the soundtrack for The Sum of My Individual Parts by Hans Weingartner . The debut album Howl was released on February 28, 2014 and immediately reached the top ten of the German album charts. On March 24, 2017 they released their second album "Dreamers" via Universal Music, which reached the top 20 of the German album charts, and just a few months later, on November 3, 2017, their Storm EP was released . In summer 2018 they played at various European festivals, including the Hurricane Festival and Southside Festival , as well as the Milky Chance & Friends Open Air in Berlin.
