Kontra K (born July 3, 1987 in Berlin as Maximilian Diehn , also stylized as KOИTRA K ) is a German rapper who is under contract with the BMG label .

Life

Kontra K grew up in Berlin. After graduating from secondary school, he discovered his love for rap at the age of 16 and emulated his American idols Nas , 2Pac , The Notorious BIG and Naughty by Nature . At the same time he started kickboxing . In 2006 he founded the rap duo Vollkontakt with KiezSpezial . The duo was signed by Kaisa on his label Hell Raisa Records . There the Fight Club Mixtape Vol.1 appeared. However, Kaisa then dissolved the label. With the former label members Skinny Al and Fatal , Kontra K then founded the label DePeKaRecords . Sales took Distributionz .

In 2010 Kontra K's debut album Dobermann was released , followed by a dubstep mixtape called Electrosmog in 2012 . The second album, What time brings , was also released in 2012 and was one of Distributionz's best-selling albums and was instrumental in making Distributionz “Label of the Month April” on Amazon . This was followed in 2013 by the EP Auf Teufel komm raus (together with Bonez MC ) and the third album 12 Runden , which reached number 8 in the German album charts.

In May 2014 Kontra K signed a contract with Four Music . The first release was the EP Wölfe . On February 6, 2015 he released his fourth solo album From the shadow into the light and reached number 2 in the German charts.

The fifth solo album Labyrinth followed in 2016 , on which Bonez MC, RAF Camora and the band Haudegen participated, among others . An interactive video was published the day before with Lex Shrapnel, Kyra Sophia Kahre and Bill Fellows, among others, about At Your Side . The album entered the German album charts at number 1 on May 27, 2016 .

In 2017 his sixth solo album Gute Nacht was released on BMG. He had ended his collaboration with his previous label Four Music and spoke in this context of an amicable separation due to differences in the way of working.

In 2018 his seventh solo album Earth and Bones was released , in 2019 he released his eighth album They wanted water but get gasoline and with The Cratez and Luciano the single Himmel Grau . The single was released on The Cratez's producer album Nonstop .

Image and music

Kontra K's music is primarily created in collaboration with its main producer, The Cratez from Berlin. He markets himself as a boy from the street with a penchant for martial arts . Kontra K calls for the cohesion of the street and mixes socially critical tones with its own experiences. In the course of his rap career, both his image and his subjects changed. His first rap albums (e.g. Dobermann, Fight Club Mixtape Vol. 1) still sounded strongly like German gangsta rap .

At least since the EP Wölfe in 2014 and the album Aus dem Schatten ins Licht in 2015, Kontra K has moved away from its “brutal image” of a boy from the street and thus also from classic gangsta rap and its typical text elements. His more recent texts mainly contain lines in which he focuses on the topics of martial arts, “Try to get my listeners to watch sports films”, and motivation mixed with experiences from his own life. In an interview he said "I have become a good person".

Controversy

In a 1-Live interview in 2016 by WDR for the report " Homophobie im Deutschrap", Kontra K expressed the opinion that the word "gay" in youth language is an insult, and that "absolutely not much to do with rap" have. He also found that the accusation that a text goes “too far” can be countered, “There is also freedom of expression. For everyone. ”Although it is believed that sexual orientation has a genetic component, he expressed a dissenting opinion:

“I don't think that's something in the genes. Or that you will be born gay, I don't think so. For that, a thousand people can hate me now - I just don't believe it. "
