Wanda is a five-member Austrian rock - band from Vienna .
history
Wanda was founded in Vienna in 2012 . The band is named after the pimp Wanda Kuchwalek . In October 2014 her debut album Amore was released by the Austrian label Problembär Records . It went from zero to number 13 in the Austrian album charts. At the same time, the band started a tour through Austria, Germany and Switzerland . Your producer is Paul Gallister .
At the Amadeus Awards 2015 , Wanda was recognized in the Alternative Pop / Rock category and won the FM4 Award . In addition, she was nominated for Band of the Year as well as for the album and for the song of the year. With four nominations, she was the most frequently nominated act.
On March 26th, 2015 the album Amore reached gold status in Austria. Her second album Bussi was released on October 2nd, 2015 on the sub-label Vertigo Records.
When asked if the band could imagine writing political songs, singer Fitzthum made it clear: “I don't think we'll get into a political discourse. Our basic attitude should be known: strictly against xenophobia, misogyny and sexism in general. But I can't turn the world upside down in a 3:30 minute long hit single. ”The second album was a huge success. It rose from 0 to 1 in the charts, followed by the debut album Amore , at the same time four songs were to be found in the single charts, Bussi Baby on position 3. Within less than two weeks the long player reached gold status in Austria.
She was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award 2016 in the categories of Band of the Year , Album of the Year , Song of the Year , Live Act of the Year and the genre category Pop / Rock . It was awarded as Band of the Year , Live Act of the Year and in the Pop / Rock category .
At the end of July 2017, the single 0043 was released, which should serve as the first harbinger of the third album. A month later, the second release Columbo appeared , an allusion to the crime series Columbo, which has been running on Austrian television for decades - especially on ORF . The single reached number one in the official Austrian charts after seven weeks and gold status in Austria after thirteen weeks, making it the biggest success of a single Wanda title to date. The associated album Niente was released at the beginning of October , which, like its predecessor, was released at the top of the longplay charts and reached platinum status.
On June 7, 2019, the fourth album Ciao! announced for September 6, 2019 with a subsequent tour in early 2020. At the same time, the album's first single, Ciao Baby! , released.
style
In terms of music, Wanda can be assigned to pop , with clear influences from indie rock and rock 'n' roll . The lyrics are mainly about life, love and death. In the texts, some of which are presented in Viennese and sometimes cynical, the darker side of love is also illuminated, such as unfulfilled sexual desires (Bologna) or separation (falling apart is difficult) . Singer Fitzthum named Der Nino from Vienna and Soap & Skin as musicians who were inspiring and encouraging for founding Wanda. While writing songs for Wanda, Fitzthum often stimulated his creativity by listening to Beatles songs.
reception
In August 2015, the Musikexpress called them “perhaps the last important rock'n'roll band of our generation”. The readers of the German Rolling Stone voted Wanda as Band of the Year in December 2015.
In 2020, Bologna was chosen by the pop culture magazine The Gap in the AustroTOP ranking as 9th of the “100 most important Austrian pop songs”.
