Columbo is a song by the Austrian pop group Wanda . It was first released on August 25, 2017. The title alludes to the crime series of the same name that has been running on ORF for decades .
background
Columbo is the second single from the second album Niente . Like all songs on the album, it was produced by Paul Gallister . Text and music come from singer Michael Marco Fitzthum (Marco Wanda).
Music and lyrics
The song is a song about relationships. The song describes an evening at home. You sit together in front of the television and watch Columbo. You get scared, but you have the certainty that Columbo will solve the case. The rain outside is unimportant because you are inside. At the end they go to bed together.
As on the first single 0043 , this song is also characterized by nostalgia and is reminiscent of the ten seasons television series Columbo with Peter Falk . The characteristic trademark of the series character is alluded to and its catch phrase " Another little question " is quoted. In the end, the lyrics refer to the solution to all relationship problems: "In the end, Columbo comes up with something, let it be our salvation / It will be a nice solution, but we both don't fit in". The text is described in the typical Viennese Schmäh . Your trademark, the word "Amore" for love, also appears in the text. Musically, the song is part of rock and guitar pop.
Music video
The music video mixes scenes from the lyrics with typical design elements of the series, for example the chalk outlines where the corpse is in the series, Columbo's company car, an old Peugeot and his dog. Singer Marco Wanda dances and flies around with fluffed angel wings. The video shot by Jasmin Baumgartner was made with the support of the Vienna Film Academy and took part in Diagonale in 2018 .

The song reached the top of the Austrian single charts and was awarded a platinum record in Austria on May 30, 2018 for over 30,000 units sold.
At the 2018 Amadeus Awards , Wanda won the song of the year category with this song .
