OK Kid is a German pop - band . The band was founded in 2006 as Jona: S founded. Her name is derived from the albums OK Computer and Kid A by the band Radiohead .

history

Founding years as Jona: S

Rapper and singer of the band Jonas Schubert got to know the drummer and guitarist Raffael Kühle in a hip-hop workshop that took place in Giessen's Weststadt . The band was then founded in 2006 by the two of them as a group of five in the region around Gießen under the name "Jona: S". Jona: S released two EPs and in 2009 won the RadioAward for New Music , a radio award for young bands.

Renamed OK Kid and debut album with Four Music

After two members left the band in 2011, the group was renamed “OK Kid” in mid-2012. The trio that still existed soon decided to relocate to Cologne. In April 2013, the band's first album and album of the same name called OK Kid was released . The album was produced by Sven Ludwig and Robot Koch and it was released by Sony Music's Four Music sub-label . The album reached number 43 on the official German album charts .

“Zeit” described the band as “class representatives of Generation Y”. “1Live” recognized a “new hope” in German pop in the trio, and Juice magazine published the words “OK KID have been pushing boundaries since the beginning, adding dazzling electronic nuances Indie lethargy and the long-harvested fruits of their early rapeseed socialization. OK Kid devoted the following years mainly to tours and concert tours. For example, the band appeared in March 2013 at the Rockpalast of WDR television , in April 2013 at Circus HalliGalli as a band from the phone booth and in June 2013 at the Southside and the Hurricane Festival . The only release in the concert-rich time was the five-song EP "Grundlos", which reached number 39 in the official German single charts. In 2014, OK Kid entered the Bundesvision Song Contest for Hesse with the song Unterwasserliebe and thus came in 9th.

First top ten placement with the album "Zwei"

Three years after the album debut, the follow-up album, Zwei, followed in April 2016 . Two made it to number six on the album charts in both Germany and Austria. In addition, guest appearances by Megaloh and Frank Spilker can be heard on the publication .

Own festival in Giessen and third album "Sensation"

In 2018, the band launched the City Without Sea Festival in their hometown of Giessen . The festival is named after their song of the same name, which is about Giessen. OK Kid hid one of forty festival ribbons as a gimmick on their new album "Sensation" . In 2018, artists such as B. Faber , Trettmann or Megaloh . The festival took place again in 2019 and is to be repeated annually. After the three pre-released singles Waiting for the Strong Man , Lies Hits and Wut lass nach , the third OK Kid album was released on October 19, 2018 with Sensation . This was produced in cooperation with the producer Tim Tautorat and reached number 15 in the German album charts. The music blog published the following words about it: “With their new album 'Sensation', the Cologne-based people are leaning far out of the window. In addition to a clearly defined political core, the band also impresses at their new studio work with a pop declaration of love cast in sound. ” Since mid-November 2018, the band has been on a tour called Lügenhits & Happy Endings Tour .
