Kid A is the fourth album by the English band Radiohead and was released on October 2, 2000 .

description

The album is marked by a departure from the guitar-oriented rock songs on The Bends ( 1995 ) and OK Computer ( 1997 ). After several years of touring with "OK Computer", the band and producer Nigel Godrich decided to find a different approach to music. The result was a production time of several years and songs that have little to do with songs in the classical sense (verse-chorus scheme). The instrumentation was also atypical; Guitars are rarely used, the Ondes Martenot are a defining instrument .

Reviews

Both the American music magazine Rolling Stone and the online magazine Pitchfork Media voted Kid A the best album of the years 2000–2009. The album won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album .

The album scored 80/100 on Metacritic .

Blips

In the run-up to the release, advertising was almost completely dispensed with, so the band did not give any interviews, nor were there any videos or single releases. In the Internet , as a substitute for missing video clips, abstract blips , short video sequences backed by album tracks were circulating that portrayed the vision of a misguided capitalism that is populated by genetically manipulated killer bears . Those then also became a kind of “ mascot ” of the album artwork.

Trivia

The first 150,000 European copies contain a mistake: The CDs begin with an approximately 40-second intro of a live performance by the band Pearl Jam , so that each additional track on the album begins 40 seconds "behind" the actual track mark.
