Mercedes J. Ruehl (born February 28, 1948 in Queens , New York City , New York ) is an American actress .

Life

Mercedes Ruehl won the 1991 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and a Golden Globe for her role in King of the Fishermen and the Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in Lost in Yonkers .

She graduated from New Rochelle with a degree in English literature in 1969 and married the politician and industrialist Ed Ruehl that same year , but divorced in December 2002. Ruehl is married to the painter David Geiser and has been a mother several times.
