Hail to the Thief is the sixth studio album by the British alternative band Radiohead . It was published in June 2003 and finished in first place of the British album charts. It reached 3rd place in Germany and Switzerland and 6th place in Austria. The follow-up album In Rainbows was released on October 10, 2007.

Due to its allegory on " Hail to the Chief ", the title of the album is an allusion to the US President George W. Bush and his narrow election victory in 2000. However, the band rejected this in interviews as an interpretative reduction in the message content. Rather, they want it, as well as the album itself, to be understood as a reflection of the mood of the time in which “Hail to the Thief” was created. The sound depth of the album recorded in Los Angeles , which varies greatly due to the various instruments used , differs, like all Radiohead albums, from its predecessors. However, following on from Kid A and Amnesiac , in addition to quiet piano intros and clanking guitar riffs, electronic elements are increasingly used, for example in Where I End and You Begin (the sky is falling in) or in Myxomatosis (judge, jury and executioner) . In addition to quieter ballads such as bpsw. A Wolf at the Door (it girl rag doll) or the song There There (the boney king of nowhere) , planned two years earlier , both dark and aggressive songs with electronica elements such as Myxomatosis (judge, jury and executioner) , as well as influences from Minimal in Backdrifts (honeymoon is over) and Alternative Rock in 2 + 2 = 5 (the lukewarm) .
Each song on the album has an alternative title, for example 2 + 2 = 5 or The Lukewarm .
