Friska Viljor is a Swedish band that belongs to the indie rock genre .

history

The founders of the band are Daniel Johansson and Joakim Sveningsson, who ended up in a recording studio during a tour of Stockholm's nightlife. The result is the debut album Bravo! (2006). The first single with the title Gold reached number 11 in the charts in the band's home country.

Shortly after the publication of Bravo , Sveningsson and Johansson traveled to Germany to do street music in Hamburg and Berlin. They played a concert at the Back Records record store in the St. Pauli district . This resulted in further appearances in shared apartments and pubs in the district. Distributed by the Hamburg indie label Devil Duck Records, Bravo was also released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2007 and the band went on tour for the first time as support for the US band Eagle Seagull . Then Friska Viljor went on her first own club tour. This was followed by festival appearances such as the Immergut in Neustrelitz, the Haldern Pop or the Obstwiesen Festival .

The release of the album Tour de hearts was followed by further club tours. In summer 2009 the band toured Germany and performed at the Appletree Garden Festival and the Rocken am Brocken Festival . In autumn 2009 a tour followed, on which the new album For New Beginnings was presented. In 2011 the album The Beginning of the Beginning of the End was released on Haldern Pop Recordings .

In 2013, the album Remember Our Name was released on Daniel Johansson's own label Crying Bob Records, which until then was responsible for marketing the band's music outside of German-speaking territories. The album reached number 73 in the German album charts . The single Bite Your Head Off was released beforehand. In the same year the band went on a European tour and played in the summer of 2013 a. a. at the Hurricane Festival .

In June 2015, the fifth album My Name Is Friska Viljor was released , again on Crying Bob Records. After a tour in autumn 2015 and festival shows the following summer a. a. at A Summers Tale , MS Dockvile or Deichbrand Festival, the band took a longer break for the first time.

In September 2018, Sveningson and Johansson performed under the name Shotgun Sisters at the Hamburg Reeperbahn Festival . They announced a tour by Friska Viljor for 2019. During the tour, on which they also presented their new album Broken , they made guest appearances from January 14th to 25th, 2019 in Hamburg, Berlin, Münster, Cologne, Wiesbaden, Linz, Vienna, Salzburg, Dornbirn, Bern, Winterthur, Munich, Dresden and Rostock.

style

Singer Joakim Sveningsson described the band's style of music as "children's music with adult lyrics". Quirky components have been added to the instrumentation such as broken guitars, wind instruments, glockenspiel or falsetto choirs . Friska Viljor uses these to create their own mix of folk to electro .
