history

The festival took place for the first time in 1990 and has been held annually since 1996. In 2018, the orchard festival counted around 22,000 visitors, making it one of the largest free-and-outside festivals.

Initially taking place on the Lerchenfeld meadows of the Bundeswehr area, in 2008 the event took place for the first time next to the container station in the Dornstadt industrial area (EXIT 62). In 2009 the festival took place in the Upper Forest (to the left of the country road between Dornstadt and Beimerstetten). The festival has had a permanent site again since 2012, this time on Lerchenberg in Dornstadt.

Most of the bands that appear can be assigned to the genres of indie, electro and hip-hop. In addition to a main stage, there has also been a tent with a stage for many years.

Admission is free, there is a fee for parking and camping on site. The festival lasts 3 days and takes place from Thursday to Saturday.

On the first day of the festival, two films will be shown each year at dusk. The German movie Video Kings premiered in 2007 at the Obstwiesenfestival.
