The League of Gentlemen ordinary is a German pop - band from Hamburg and Berlin .
history
The League of Ordinary Gentlemen was founded in 2012 after singer and songwriter Carsten Friedrichs' predecessor band Superpunk broke up. In addition to Carsten Friedrichs, Tim Juergens is another ex-superpunk musician who plays in the League of Ordinary Gentlemen. Philip Morten Andernach (guitar, saxophone), the Wallpaper Records owner Gunther Buskies (keyboard, saxophone) and Christoph Kähler (aka Zwanie Jonson) on drums complete the group. André Rattay (ex- Blumfeld ) also played drums when recording the debut album, which was recorded and co-produced by Christoph Kähler .
The band's first release was the 7 "single Die Gentlemen Spieler . The debut album Everyone on Earth is Beautiful was released in 2012. On Record Store Day 2013, a double single on blue vinyl in a gatefold cover, limited to 500 copies, for the song Der Fifth Four Top In addition to a new studio version and a live version of the song, the double single also contains remixes by Hans Nieswandt and Frank Popp .
In autumn 2013, parts of the band recorded the album Aus der Bibliothèque by Andreas Dorau , which Christoph Kähler recorded and co-produced.
The second album Alle Ampeln auf Gelb followed in 2014 ! . The title song is about Peter-Ernst Eiffe from Hamburg , who was the first “graffiti artist” to be active in the late 1960s. The song Do you know Werner Enke? was released as a vinyl single and is a tribute to the actor and filmmaker Werner Enke . At a concert by the band in Bremen, Werner Enke played with the band on stage on improvised drums.
In autumn 2015 Heiko Franz ( Cucumber Men , Splashdowns) took over the drums, in January 2016 the League of Ordinary Gentlemen released their third album Rüttel mal am Käfig, the monkeys should do something! . A year later the successor It's OK to Love DLDGG came out, which entered the German album charts at number 60.
Philip Morten Andernach left the band in August 2018, and Fabio Papais ( The Mayor of the Night , Cascade Lakes) joined the band as the new guitarist . Preparations for the fifth studio album began. Fuck Dance, Let's Art was released on August 23, 2019 and reached number 48 on the German album charts and number 10 on the vinyl charts .
Music genre
Like its predecessor Superpunk, DLDGG mixes Northern Soul with Pop , Punk and Garage Rock . Musically you see yourself in the tradition of the early The Creation and the Motown sound. The songs, which usually have a happy basic rhythm, deal with everyday, especially adverse conditions. Football is a big topic on the first album. On the second album, The League of Ordinary Gentlemen pay homage to various big names in the scene such as Enke and Eiffe.

- The title song of the debut single Die Gentlemen Spieler was awarded the prize for the best football song of the year by the German Academy for Football Culture in 2012.
- When the Echo Awards 2014 took place on May 27, 2014 , the left-wing newspaper Die Tageszeitung named its song Rock-Pop National , a statement on the Frei.Wild controversy , the song of the week.
