Superpunk was a Hamburg band founded in 1996 . The band developed partly from the Five Friends , the direct predecessor was the Bruno Ferrari Quintet .

The style of superpunk is a mix of northern soul , punk rock and garage rock .

Band history

The band released five studio albums and one live album before 2011 with Oh, this Sound! a tribute sampler appeared on which performers of various genres covered superpunk songs. In addition to Fettes Brot and Madsen were u. a. Egotronic , Die Sterne and Andreas Dorau represented on the compilation.

On February 10, 2012, their record company, Wallpaper Records, announced the breakup of Superpunk, along with the announcement of a final seven-gig club tour. The performance on June 2, 2012 in Knust in Hamburg was supposed to be the last, but in March 2012 an additional concert in Knust was announced for June 3, 2012. On August 25, Superpunk played their last festival concert at the Bootboohook Festival in Hanover, and on September 10, 2012, their very last live concert in the Stadtsaal Wien, a surprise concert by radio station FM4 .

A short time after the band ended, it was announced that Carsten Friedrichs and Tim Jürgens would continue stylistically with other musicians as The League of Ordinary Gentlemen .
