Thies Mynther

Thies Mynther (born February 26, 1968 in Bamberg ) is a German producer, lyricist and composer.

Life

Thies Mynther, birth name Thies Münther , was born as the son of Hanne-Martje and Hartmut Münther. He has a brother, Jan, and a sister, Julia. He lives and works in Hamburg , Berlin and temporarily on Hiddensee .

After the first small publications in the punk-influenced cassette scene of the late 1980s, he founded the small collective Die Allwissende Billardkugel in Essen in 1990 and joined the rock band Die Government . After moving to Hamburg in 1991, he played various keyboard instruments as a guest on Huah! , the stars , Bernd Begemann , the Five Friends and Tocotronic . In the mid-1990s, Mynther became a member and author of the emerging bands Stella and Superpunk . The Imperial studio built with Mense Reents and Jimi Siebels became a busy place. In 1997 he produced the second album El Niño by Daniel Puente Encina 's punk rock band Niños con Bombas . He played concerts with Erobique under the name Platinum Flavor and made regular remixes, including a. for Peter Licht or Phonoboy . In 1999 he formed Phantom / Ghost together with Dirk von Lowtzow and became an affiliate member and producer of Das Bierbeben . With all the formations he released albums and went on extensive tours.

Under the team name Glove, he and the DJ Tobi Neumann produced albums by Chicks on Speed and Miss Kittin , and a few maxis and various remixes etc. appeared on Playhouse and Cocoon . a. for Ladytron , Human League , 2raumwohnung and The KLF . In 2011 he worked with Tamer Fahri Özgönenc and Dillon on their first album This Silence Kills and in 2014 part of the follow-up The Unknown.

Mynther composed film music e.g. B. for the films The Caller (2007) and The Course of Things (2006) . He works regularly with the filmmaker Sandra Trostel as a sound designer , composer and dramaturgical consultant, most recently on the documentaries Utopia Ltd. and Everybody's Cage.

Since 2009 he has been working as a composer, musician and musical director a. a. with Nicolas Stemann , Sebastian Baumgarten , Bastian Kraft , Brit Bartkowiak, Ulrich Matthes and Josua Rösing, as well as in free forms with groups such as Showcase Beat Le Mot or in a kind of joint performative work exhibition by Phantom Ghost and Cosima von Bonin called Retrospectres in the Haus der Berliner Festival / Kampnagel HH / Mumok Vienna. He was u. a. guest at the Schauspielhaus and at Kampnagel in Hamburg, the Deutsches Theater , the Akademie der Künste and the Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin and the state theaters in Mainz, Oldenburg and Bratislava.

In 2014 Mynther published a music book with 22 selected compositions by the Phantom Ghost group at the Buchholz Gallery . In 2016 he developed and produced the play I Know It When I See It, a music-theatrical examination of pornography, with Jason Danino Holt as part of the International Summer Festival at Kampnagel .
