history

The gallery has had different locations since it was founded. Since 1994 the Daniel Buchholz gallery has been located at Neven-DuMont-Straße 17 in Cologne in the main building of his father's antiquarian bookshop, in which Daniel Buchholz converted former storage rooms into exhibition rooms. Since his death in 1993, his father's antiquarian bookshop has been continued by Daniel Buchholz alongside his work as a gallery owner. The main seat of the gallery is still located here today.

The art historian Christopher Müller initially helped organize film programs and exhibitions in the gallery from 1996. He has been a partner in the gallery since 2000. In 2008 the Berlin branch opened in Charlottenburg and in 2015 the New York branch opened in the Upper East Side, Manhattan .

Exhibitions

In addition to exhibitions by their artists, the gallery also hosts curated, historical exhibitions, for example an exhibition with works by Martin Wong in 2010 or a major exhibition on the life and work of Raymond Roussel in 2013 (with the 2015 exhibition rooms in New York opened). In the summer of 2014 the gallery organized a symposium and an exhibition together with Diedrich Diederichsen , Juliane Rebentisch and Marc Siegel on the occasion of the 70th birthday of the American theorist and exhibition organizer Douglas Crimp (2014). The exhibition in the gallery was developed by Christopher Müller in exchange with Douglas Crimp and the international speakers at the symposium were invited by Diederichsen, Rebentisch and Siegel. In 2017, Christopher Müller and Diedrich Diederichsen organized the exhibition “Cosmic Communities: Coming Out Into Outer Space - Homofuturism, Applied Psychedelia & Magic Connectivity” in the gallery's New York rooms.

The gallery is represented at the Art Basel , Art Basel Miami Beach , Art Cologne and Frieze Art Fair London fairs .
