Cerith Wyn Evans

Cerith Wyn Evans (* 1958 in Llanelli, Wales ) is a British conceptual artist, sculptor and filmmaker.

Life

Evans studied in London at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and at the Royal College of Art , London. After graduating, he initially worked as an assistant to the British film director Derek Jarman . His early experimental films from the 1980s were shaped by his collaboration with dancers, such as Michael Clark and Leigh Bowery .

In the 1990s, Evans began to delve into sculpture, installations, and conceptual art . He was in contact with the Young British Artists . Since that time he has been represented at solo and collective exhibitions.

In 2003 he represented his native Wales at the 50th Venice Biennale in the first national pavilion of Wales. In 2011 he designed a huge large picture (176 m²) for the Vienna State Opera , which was shown in the 2011/2012 season as part of the “Iron Curtain” series of exhibitions conceived by museum in progress .
