Florian Pumhösl

Florian Pumhösl (* 1971 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist . In his work, he makes use of the means of installation , conceptual art and photography . He was one of the youngest artists participating in documenta 12 .

Life

Florian Pumhösl attended Graphische , a vocational school for visual communication and media technology in Vienna from 1989 to 1991 . At the same time, he began studying at the University of Applied Arts , also in Vienna. He completed his studies in 1997 with a diploma.

Pumhösl starts with a visual stimulus in his work based on theoretical considerations on the conditions of culture. The focus is on the formal vocabulary of modernity, especially architecture. It is typical to deal with political and social events, especially in the context of the Third World. The techniques he used range from photography to reverse glass painting, his formal language is related to the advertising painting of the 1920s, the colors are mostly limited to black and white.

Pumhösl lives and works in Vienna.

Since the summer semester 2018 he has been professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .
