Otto Mauer Prize

The Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize is an Austrian art prize .

The Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize was founded in 1981 with the intention of promoting young contemporary artists in continuation of the concerns of Monsignore Otto Mauer (1907–1973). The prize money comes from the Otto Mauer Fund, which was set up in 1980 as a foundation by the Archdiocese of Vienna . The prize was endowed with 100,000 schillings from 1981 to 1994 and 150,000 schillings from 1995 to 2001 . The prize money is currently 11,000 euros .

Initially, the prize was awarded for painting and sculpture. In 1996 the prize was expanded to include painting, graphics, sculpture, objects, installations and new media.

The jury for the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize consists alternately of Austrian personalities, artists and art critics such as Gunter Damisch , Gustav Schörghofer SJ and Sabine B. Vogel .

In 2017 the jury consisted of Veronika Dirnhofer , artist, Andreas Fogarasi , award winner 2016, Hemma Schmutz , artistic director of the Lentos Art Museum Linz , Gustav Schörghofer SJ and Johanna Schwanberg , director of the Dom Museum Vienna .
