In 2001 she received the Georg Eisler Prize and in 2002 the Otto Mauer Prize , Vienna.

In her artistic work, Dorit Margreiter addresses the tension between the private and the public, inside and outside, and shows in her video the relationship between film and television and architectural and social concepts of space.

For her appearance at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, she had a side wing of the Austrian pavilion converted into a cinema and at the same time used it as a location for a silent film shown there ( pavilion , 2009 35mm, b / w, silent, 8min). “I wanted to examine this space, which appears like a historical summer house but is completely unsuitable as a contemporary exhibition space, as a filmic and sculptural space. I was particularly interested in the architecture of the pavilion with its spectacular play of light. "

Margreiter holds a professorship for video and video installation at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . She lives and works in Vienna and Los Angeles .
