Aglaia Konrad

Aglaia Konrad (* 1960 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian - Belgian photographer who lives and works in Brussels .

life and work

Aglaia Konrad studied from 1990 to 1992 at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. There she taught until she was appointed to the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. She has been visiting professor in Leipzig since 2005.

Aglaia Konrad takes pictures of urban spaces in a globalized world. Her photographic work and her videos focus on the urban development of global cities on the five continents. From images that were taken in various cities such as Sao Paulo , Beijing , Chicago , Dakar , Tokyo , Cairo and Shanghai , she has created a huge archive that serves as the basis for her exhibitions.

She is best known for her photographic work and her spatial interventions.

Exhibitions (selection)

Aglaia Konrad has taken part in numerous international exhibitions, including the 1997 documenta X in Kassel; Cities on the Move (1998 and 1999, Bordeaux, New York, London, Helsinki, Vienna) and 2000 at the Shanghai Biennale . In 2009 the Museum of Contemporary Art in Siegen dedicated a double exhibition to Aglaia Konrad and Armin Linke.
