Gustav Schörghofer

Gustav Schörghofer SJ (born March 5, 1953 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian Jesuit and priest. He works in the field of pastoral care for artists.

Life

In his childhood, Schörghofer lived there as the son of the administrator of the Hohensalzburg Fortress . He later studied art history and classical archeology in Salzburg , in 1980 he received his doctorate "On the connection between Italian Renaissance portraits" , and in 1981 he joined the Society of Jesus . He then studied philosophy and theology in Munich and Rome and was ordained a priest in 1988 .

Schörghofer was superior of the Jesuit community in Vienna I from 1996 to 2000 , and has been the church rector of the university church since 1998 . Furthermore, since summer 2005 he has been the spiritual director of the youth associations of the Christian Life Alte Burse in Vienna 1st district . As an art historian, he repeatedly tries to make contemporary artists known, among other things through installations of works of art in the Jesuit church and the Zacherlfabrik .

From 1988 to 1997 Schörghofer was one of the editors of the magazine Entschluss , which was discontinued in 1996.

Gustav Schörghofer has been a member of the board of directors of the Otto Mauer Fund since 1998 and has headed the jury for the Otto Mauer Prize since 2000 .
