Sculptural acupuncture (2017), on the facade of the Academic Gymnasium Graz , until at least August 2020
Description of the installation by Manfred Erjautz on the facade of the "Academic", Graz (2017)

Manfred Erjautz studied from 1985 to 1990 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Bruno Gironcoli . Erjautz is a member of the Vienna Secession and Forum Stadtpark .

Manfred Erjautz lives in Vienna and works with a gallery owner (2020).

Erjautz's work negotiates the experiences of the individual within constantly interwoven and mutually irritating areas such as inside and outside, private and public, and undertakes compensatory attempts to establish a position of one's own person in these fields and thus counteract any established excessive demands.

By blurring and at the same time defining spatial boundaries, between the real and the fictional, Manfred Erjautz thematizes the transitory nature of familiar situations and feelings and exposes them as temporary agreements. The confrontation with the figures, both close to life and remote, leads to an intermediate level that reveals the gap between the private and the collective. His universe resembles simulated systems - mythologies and other substitute realities - which exemplify the mechanisms of society.

Famous works

  • Fountain sculpture The exploration of permanence / Searching into permanence , vulgo Schneemann (2005), made of white marble in the courtyard of the seminary, Graz , Bürgergasse 2.
  • Sculptural acupuncture , installation of three discarded street lights in Graz on the facade of the Academic Gymnasium Graz , Tummelplatz, 2017 until at least September 2020. The fastening was carried out using a 2 cm thick steel plate and 7 M40 screws on the 60 cm thick wall behind, which had been freed from plaster the blackboard of a classroom.
  • The (vulgo :) Jesus watch was created in 2012-2016. The torso and legs of a wooden crucifix figure from the 19th century turn as hour hands, the arms behind (!) As - shorter - minute and second hands. The continuously running clockwork in a cube-shaped box with about 55 cm side length is driven by an electric motor and is precisely controlled according to the time zone for Central Europe. The gearbox runs in an oil bath, balancing weights in the factory compensate for the weight of the pointer. The axis of the hour hand, which protrudes about 70 cm from the movement, lies coaxially in the innermost part of the other two hand axes and, with a diameter of 30 mm, transmits the greatest torque and bending moment. When the clock was shown at the invitation of Bishop Hermann Glettler in 2019 in the hospital church in Innsbruck, it sparked controversy about the cut up figure of Christ.
