Hermann Glettler (born January 8, 1965 in Übelbach , Styria ) is an Austrian artist and clergyman . He is the Roman Catholic diocesan bishop of the Innsbruck diocese .

Life

Hermann Glettler grew up in Übelbach. During his graduation trip to southern France in the summer of 1983 , he came into contact with the Emmanuel Community . During this contact his desire to become a priest grew . He joined the Emmanuel Community and studied theology and art history in Graz . He spent two years of his studies in Germany . On June 23, 1991, he became a priest for the Diocese Graz-Seckau ordained .

In 1997 he became pastor in the Graz St. Andrä parish . His life as a priest is very much shaped by mission. He has also become very well known as an artist.

In December 2014 the sound installation Expansion of the Universe by the composer Rudolf Wakolbinger premiered in the Andrä Church. As part of the project, a discussion moderated by Astrid Kury, President of the Graz Academy, took place between Pastor Glettler, the atheist Heinz Oberhummer ( Science Busters ) (1941–2015) and the Graz artist Markus Wilfling . The topic was the origin and development of the universe , there was a dispute about the human soul, God and the question of what was nice before the big bang - in mutual respect of different views. The conversation was widely publicized in the Krone bunt one Sunday.

In September 2016 Hermann Glettler was appointed Episcopal Vicar for the areas of Caritas and New Evangelization.

From June 27, 2017 and until the end of October he will be showing his own and other works and set pieces from his former apartment in the administration wing of the southern location of the LKH Graz Süd-West under the exhibition title “Glettler Privat” . Before that - from 1990 - his website lists six solo exhibitions, in Styria and one in Zagreb , as well as a selection of exhibition participations - from 2000 - one of them in Zadar , also in Croatia.

On September 27, 2017, Pope Francis appointed Hermann Glettler Bishop of Innsbruck. He received the episcopal ordination on December 2, 2017 in the Innsbruck Olympic Hall by the Archbishop of Salzburg , Franz Lackner OFM . Co- consecrators were the Graz Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl and his predecessor and Bishop of Linz , Manfred Scheuer . Almost 8,000 visitors took part in the consecration service. In the Austrian Bishops' Conference , Hermann Glettler has been responsible for the field of “Art and Culture” and responsible for the church's monument protection commission since November 2018; he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for World Mission and is responsible for the church peace organization " Pax Christi Austria" on the part of the Bishops' Conference .
