The Duisburg-Nord green belt is a project to design a green belt in the Duisburg districts of Marxloh , Bruckhausen and Beeck .

History and design

In parts of Bruckhausen and Beeck, due to the proximity to industry, parts of the population moved away, which led to vacancies and simultaneous decay of the residential buildings. In order to counteract this trend, the City Council of Duisburg decided on December 10, 2007 to demolish parts of the residential buildings and to start the Duisburg-Nord green belt project . In 2008 the urban renewal project financed by the state, federal government, EU and Thyssen Krupp Steel Europe took place, which was ended in 2016. A total of 170 houses were demolished during this time. The green belt, a park with walls, has a length of 500 meters and an area of 90,000 square meters. The project cost 72 million euros in total, half of which was funded by Thyssenkrupp and the other half by the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union. The park was officially inaugurated in May 2016.
